City of Ember 2008

On the day the world ended the fate of a mankind was carried in a small box. The City of Ember is built that could last for 200 years. It was design and built by a group of scientists, engineers and architect. They have met in a secret location and made a crucial decision. They concluded that there was only one hope for our future, is to build an underground City to protect from citizen for generations to come.

The small metal box contains the instruction to the exit from the City of Ember. The small metal box is designed to open only after 200 years. It was given to the first mayor of ember and then this mayor will pass it to his/her successor but the chain was broken and the box was forgotten.

After 200 years the City of Ember experienced several blackouts and their generator was falling. Citizens of Ember worried about the condition of the City. Their food supplies were being rationed.

Lina a young girl assigned to be a messenger found the small metal box that contains instruction who believed that it was made by the builders. This young girl had a friend who could help her unlocked the secrets to the exit from ember. Together with her little sister poppy they found the exit and made it to the world above the sky.

The movie is so exciting and a lot of heart pounding scenes. You can really sense how determine this young mind to see the world outside the City of Ember. Their curious and hopeful mind brought them to this exciting adventure. The movie also shows how power urged someone to be selfish and immature in times of great need. The mayor for example collected their food supplies in a secret location just for himself. End the end stuck in a horrifying death.

Changeling (2008)

Changeling is inspired by a true story movie set on 1928. The movie is starred by Angelina Jolie. The story is excellent wherein the sequence is properly arranged. The thrilling in the movie starts when Walter Collins is gone. However after a couple of months of continued search the LAPD found a boy in Illinois that match with the description of Christine’s son. When the boy was presented to Christine Collins, she denied that it was her son. She also found concrete evidence that it’s not really her son; the boy is circumcised, 2 inches shorter than the last time she measures Walter, he cannot remember were he sits in his classroom and there are some changes in his teeth. Now the teacher and the dentist are ready to give their testimonies to the court. After many denials, the LAPD brought Christine to the confinement for the reason of insanity. She was able to get out after the truth about her uncovers.

The movie portrayed something that we didn’t know. It also shows how a mother unceasingly searches for his lost son. In the end of the movie Christine Collins gains hope that his son might still be alive because of the new revelations by the kid of was able to survive. She’s hoping that her son might be somewhere still afraid to get out.

The Great Debaters (2007) is a true story film directed by two academy award winner Denzel Washington and produced by Oprah Winfrey and her Company Productions, Harpo Productions.
The main casts are: Denzel Washingtion as Melvin B. Tolson, Forest Whitaker as James Farmer, Sr., Nate Parker as Henry Lowe, Denzel Whitaker as James L. Farmer, Jr., Jurnee Smollett as Samantha Brooke.
The story about the Debate Team in Wiley college succeeded to defeat Harvard University Debate Team.
The story emphasizes on the racial discrimination against black and while people.

Titanic (1997)

Titanic (1997) is a romantic drama film directed by James Cameron with the main casts Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater and Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson.

Titanic is the name of the world's famous ship who sink in 1912. This is a true story of an old woman Rose DeWitt Bukater who recognized the painting and the necklace that was being televised after Brock Lovett and his team - the treasure hunter, found them in the shipwreck. Rose flew with her grandchildren to ship and told the whole story.

Titanic was the famous ship that time where thousands of people on board including the first class, the second class, and the third class. Jack Dawson was included in the poor class with his bestfriend Fabrizio De Rossi (Danny Nucci). Rose was 17 year old attempts to jump-off to the ocean but Jack quickly pulls her back to the ship. Their romance started to evolve around them.

When the Ship collides with a huge iceberg, their love becomes a struggle for survival. They have to fight to stay alive. But unfortunately, Jack didn't make it. He died.

Serendipity (2001)

When Jonathan Trager and Sara Thomas meet at New York on Christmas both are buying the same gloves for their lovers but they both don't know the name yet. Jonathan ask Sara of her name and a telephone number but Sara refuse him but instead she decided to let faith will find its way.
Sara Thomas have told Jonathan to test the faith if they are really meant for each other like going up in a building with different elevator and if they meet in the same floor that means they are destined for each other; second, she put her name and phone number on the first page of the book entitled "LOVE IN THE TIMES OF CHOLERA" and sell it. If he will find that book, then they are meant to be; third, she wrote his name in a dollar bill and if that money will back in her wallet, that means they are destined.
They have separated and live in a different country. They both now engaged but Jon seek help from his best man to look for that woman she met in New York and so as Sara who had just asked her fiancee a break then flew to New York.

Will faith finds its way for the two?

Villa Estrella (2009)

Ana (Shaina Magdayao) is being haunted in her dreams with a woman being killed. Her ex-boyfriend (Jake Cuenca) brings her in the Villa Estrella Resort, an abandoned resort. She then meets a girl named Jennifer (Celine Lim).
The caretaker told her that she has been in that resort when we was a little girl but she refuse to believe because she said she has never been there in that resort. She meets Gisele, who is very familiar to her.
She later realize that she is part on that resort and that the past is haunter her. She recalls that Andrea, her elder close friend, the daughter of the caretaker was killed by her father and her Tito (her ex-boyfriend's father).

This is another horror movie produced in the Philippine Cinema.

Ghost Town (2008)

Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais), is a dentist seeing ghosts after he was diagnosed and died for 7 minutes in the hospital. Dr. Pincus has been chased with the ghosts in the town and asked help from him. The recently deceased businessman Frank(Greg Kinnear) agrees Dr. P to prevent his widow, Gwen (Tea Leoni) from marrying this lawyer Richard (Billy Campbell). But it turned out that Dr. P falls in love with Gwen.

And so as the other ghosts, he help them with their unfinished business left before they died.

Deception (2008)

This is another story I've watched that title itself describes how the main character Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor) handle himself when Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman) betrayed him or lied at him.

Jonathan McQuarry is an accountant who also audits in the bank. While he is overstaying in their boardroom late at night, he was being interrupted with Wyatt Bose who offers him marijuana and the latter befriended him. On his way home in the subway, he encounters a blond woman (Michelle Williams) but never had the chance to talk to her.

Jonathan Mcquarry is being invited many times with Wyatt Bose including to play tennis and enjoys at night in the bar with him. One day, he accidentally switched their cellphone but unfortunately he was told by Bose that he will have a business trip in London.

One night, a woman called him "Are you Free Tonight" then he said yes. They agreed to meet in a certain place without knowing each other and they proceed directly to the hotel room and had sex.

The other night another woman called him asking the same question and they agree to meet. Wyatt Bose called him to encouraged meeting with different women in the list that is stored in his phone.

One day, he was shocked to see that a woman he met in the subway station. But still he didn't know the real name of that blond woman because one of the rule is "No Name" to mention.
While they were together, The blond woman disappeared quickly and had blood in his room and behind his back, he was being punch with a strong man and then he drowned.

Wyatt Bose contacted him and told him everything that happened. He commanded Jonathan to steal millions of money from the bank he will be audited. He didn't refuse Bose' command and afraid that he will lost his one true love.

Will Jonathan succeed to steal money from the bank? What will happen if he does? Now, its your turn to watch it.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)

The Four Children returns to Narnia where hundreds of years already had gone by since they ruled Narnia.
When Queen Prunaprimia gave birth to a son, King Miraz - his uncle ordered his men to kill Prince Caspian since the prince has exiled with the help of his tutor.
Susan, Edmund, Lucy and Peter are destined to find Prince Caspian to exterminate king Miraz to prevent ruling the entire Narnians.
The battle begins against the two - the group of the kings and queens of hopes and against Miraz' men.
Lucy seeks out of Aslan, the most powerful in the entire Narnia.

Another Fantasy adventure film for the family.

Good Luck Chuck (2007)

This is an American romantic comedy film starring Jessica Alba and Dane Cook.

This is the story of a dentist who was being cursed by her teenage girl who got a crush on him but he refuse her.
"Chuck" means a a good luck charm lover. If anyone who had sex with him will find their one true love.
Now, he meet this girl Cam Wexler (Jessica Alba) at the party who is working at her habitan Gentoo Penguins and she accidentally slips and breaks her tooth. She called him and agrees to work on his tooth. And their romance began.
On the other hand, chuck is now popular to all women that whoever a woman will make love with him will find her one true love.

This is really a funny movie that you should watch.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

This is one my top list movie I ever watched. Slumdog Millionaire is the story to Jamal Malik - an orphan from Mumbai, India.
He joins the Kuan Banega Crorepati (2000) - Who wants to be a million quiz show hoping that his lost love - Latika will watch him.
Every question will reveal his life story as a street kid with his brother, the encounters of a local gangs and etc.
When the final episode comes, the police arrested him when the show breaks and suspicted him of cheating on how this innocent kid answers correctly all the questions. The police listens to his story and he reveal every endeavor he has to get his love Latika back.

This is really touching yet very inspiring story with a kid struggling to live in the streets. His journey has helped him to succeed.

Love 'N Dancing (2009)

Jake Mitchell was a world champion with his partner Corrine in World Swing Champion.
Present day, Jake now teaches dance lesson while Corrine judges. Jake is completely deaf. He had her infection while he was a teenager. He just learned how to dance by feeling the vibration of music.
Jessica Donovan - an english teacher once was a dancer when she was younger. Her fiance -Kent is a work-a-holic who cares more about his work that of Jessica's happiness. Jessica took up a dance lesson with Jake Mitchell to compete and their goal now is to be a world champion.
Their romance started when Jessica broke up with her fiance - Kent.

Anak (2000) - Vilma Santos and Claudine Barretto

Vilma Santos leaves her family in the Philippines to go abroad as an OFW or Oversears Filipino Worker to find a higher paying jobs. She worked hard for her family's future and her employer did not allow her to call or to go on vacation. She didn't came for her husband's funeral causing her children to hate her.

When she arrived home in Manila, Philippines, her two children are now grown ups. Everything has changed. Her daughter (Claudine Barretto) have joined to drug addicts and even used drugs.

The problem arises on how she will rebuild their family relationship and to bring back her daughter to their home.

This is the first movie I've ever watched in the SM cinemas with my sister. This is a great movie for the family. You will learn a lot from this movie and it describes how OFW struggle their lives leaving their families home.

The Other End of the Line (2008)

Priya (Shriya Saran) An Indian woman who works in an American credit card call center company. She falls in love with one of her clients, Granger (Jesse Metcalfe). The latter is one of the asset in Hawksin hotels where he works.
Priya decided to go to New york City to meet with Granger and stays at Hawksin Hotels. But she hide her identity before Granger. They accidentaly collide their path at the lobby but she never tells that she is the girl whom he want to meet.
They enjoy their time together during her stay at the hotel. Priya's parents flew in to New York and her true identity reveals. She is already engaged back in Mumbai, India. She apologize to Granger and flew back to India. Granger realizes that he is in love to Priya, he reaches India... Priya's parents accepts her decicion.
This is a great movie. You should watch it guys.

Marley and me (2008)

This is a comedy-drama film directed by David Frankel with the main casts Owen Wilson as John Grogan and Jennifer Aniston as Jenny Grogan.
A newly-wed couple escape from Michigan to Southern Florida where they hired as a newspaper writers.
His friend and co-worker Sebastian Tunney suggests to a couple to adopt first a dog to find out if they are ready to raise a family. Marley - the name of a dog is a kind of sweet that's why Jenny choose Marley to be part in their family.
But things changed when Marley is getting bigger and bigger. They welcomed their first baby Patrick.

When John reaches 40 and so as Marley is getting older and began to have an arthritis that could lead him to die. The whole family mourn of losing Marley because Marley is their first baby.

This is a funny movie and a story of a family who lives simply with their big dog in the house.

The Uninvited (2009)

Teen Anna (Emily Browning) returns to her New England mansion along the shoreline. She just released from a mental hospital after she lost her mother in fire.
Her father (David Straitharn) introduce her new girlfriend Rachel (Elizabeth Banks) - a former home-nurse for her sick mother. Her mother has been housed in their family boathouse.
She sees a vision of the ghosts in their house including her burned mother and only Alex she can depend on. Her mother warned her from Rachel. So they collects all Rachel's belongings including IDs and checked her personal background. They soon realize that there was no name Rachel exists.
At the end, she kills Rachel knowing that it was Ales who killed her but after her father arrive, she now realizes that Alex is already dead with her mother in their boathouse. She recalls what happened to that night.
This suspense horror movie makes my heart pump everytime she forsee the ghosts and her mother corpse. This is really great.

The Hunting in Connecticut (2009)

This is a true story of a family who transfers their house near to their son's clinic for better medications. His son is suffering from a cancer.

The Campbell family experienced horrible violent supernatural events that Matt's parents first blame stress and hallucinations from his medications and treatment.

This story focusses on Matt Campbell, the son of Sara, who is being treted by cancer.

Matt Campbell is staying at the basement where in the middle of the night, his clairvoyant have experienced several disturbing visions of a seance.

Later, the family discovers that the house was previously a funeral parlor.

This is scary movie. At first, I cannot just imagine that this is really happening. The mysteries behind has been solved with the help of Matt.

At the end, Matt survive of cancer and is fully recovered. The house has been rebuilt, resold with no further disturabances or incidents reported.

A Walk to Remember (2002)

Love starts to bloom in Spring at the little port town of Beaufort, North Carolina. A popular student Landon Carter finds himself in the hospital because he had done terribly wrong. As a punishment, he needs to participate any activities including the Drama's club Spring Play.

Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) was the daugter of town's minister which she did not afraid to let the people know that her faith was the most important part of her life.

When Landon decided to participate the activity, he asked Jamie (Mandy Moore) to tutor him. Then the romance starts to evolve between them. He fall in love with Jamie.

This is the best movie I've ever seen for my entire life. I cannot forget this movie since the it explains the essence of love and romance. The true meaning of love.

Dying Young (1991)

Victor Geddes (Campbell Scott) is suffering from leukemia for several years is looking for nurse who would help and assist him in his chemotherapy treatment. He hires the young Hillary O'Neil (Julia Roberts) who had just found out that her boyfriend betrayed her.

But as the time passed of being together, nursing him with constant care, a romance spark in their both hearts. They fall in love with each other.

This movie explains how love works and help with a person infected by a dying disease. That emotional feelings will greatly affect your health. Victor Geddes have fallen in love with Hillary O'Neil for the first time and he forget that he is sick. She help Victor to encourage himself to live and fight in the name of love.

The Reader (2008)

This is really an amazing film I've ever watched. I almost cannot hold my tears back into my eyes with the life's story of Hanna Schmitz (Kate Winslett) and Micheal Berg (David Kross).

We never know when we feel love. We never know how it ends. This movie is related to the world war during Adolf Hitler's occupation, however, the story focusses on the two main casts: Hanna Schmitz (Kate Winslett) and Michael Berg (David Kross).

When Michael Berg was nearly sixteen years old, was ill at the German Stret, a woman in her 30s (Kate Winslett) took care of him and when he recovers he shows back to her apartment to thank her. The two end up with a passionate love romance. He always read a book for her like "The Oddysey" and "The Lady with the Little Dog". But suddenly Hanna disappears and Michael didn't know her whereabouts. Several years later, Michael is a law student observing some Nazi war trials when he realize that the defendant is Hanna Schmitz.

But have you not noticed why it is called "The Reader?" Simply because Hanna loves being read. When she imprison for many years, Michael send her various tape that record his own voice reading a story of "The Lady with the Little Dog". Hanna then knew how to read and write in the jail with the help of the recorded voice tape of Michael Berg.

This story shows how his concern and love to woman whom she always call him "KID".

I really love this captivating movie. I recommended this movie to all my friends and I wasnt to share them the essence of this inspiring film.
